Instructions
- Gather youth into a circle.
- Say, “Today we will play a game called Whiz, Bang, Bounce. We will pass an imaginary ball around our circle using three different movements."
- Ask, “Does that sound easy enough?”
- Explain if youth hesitate, make the wrong movement or go out of turn, they will be out!
- Say, “Let's practice our movements together before we begin.”
- Practice the three movements with youth:
- Whiz: Scoop/push/pass the ball with your dominant hand in the same direction as the hand you use (e.g., “pass” the ball to the right with your right hand).
- Bang: With the non-dominant arm, pump your fist in the air – this changes the direction of the way the ball is to be passed.
- Bounce: With both hands together, push down, as if bouncing the ball – this motion skips over the next person in the circle.
- Pass an imaginary ball to one person in the circle, and instruct them to Whiz the ball around the circle.
- Tell youth they can Bang or Bounce to change the way the ball is passed.
- Observe game play, removing players from the circle who are out.
- Play until only one person is left in the circle.
- Invite youth to have a seat.
- Ask the following questions so youth can reflect on their time together:
- What did you enjoy about this activity?
- Would you enjoy playing this game again in the future? Why? Why not?
- If you could make changes to this game, what would you change?
