Materials
- Paper (one sheet per participant)
- Pen/pencil/marker/crayon (one per participant)
Instructions
- Use a grouping strategy to assign youth into pairs.
- Direct youth to each collect a piece of paper and a writing implement, and then to find a seat with their assigned partner.
- Instruct youth to draw a squiggly line or simple shape on their piece of paper.
- Tell youth to switch papers with their partner.
- Instruct youth to turn their partner's squiggle or shape into a drawing.
- Allow youth to share their drawings with their partner.
- Tell youth they will now work together to incorporate both of their joint drawings into a story they will write together.
- Ask if anyone has any questions.
- Give youth a specified amount of time to draft their stories.
- Relay a one-minute warning before time is up.
- Ask if anyone would like to share their stories with the larger group.
- Commend youth for their creativity.
