Instructions
- Say, "Today we will play a game called Share Your Chair. Everyone, pick up your chair and bring it with you. See if you can arrange your chair in a circle with the other chairs."
- Thank the group for following your instructions, and help youth arrange their chairs into a circle, if needed.
- Say, "Now everyone pick a chair and have a seat! When I play the music, get up and march around the outside of the chairs. When the music stops, sit down in the chair you're closest to."
- Play the music.
- Supervise as youth march around the chairs.
- Stop the music.
- Ask, "Did everyone find a chair?"
- Play the music again, and while participants are marching, return one of the chairs to its original location (e.g., by a table).
- Stop the music.
- Ask, "Did everyone find a seat?"
- Say, "If not, then get creative! Find a way to share your seat with (whoever is standing). Each time we play the music, I'll remove another chair. The goal is for everyone to find a seat, no matter how many more of you there are than chairs."
- Play the music and repeat game play as long as youth can safely play with the number of chairs remaining.
